Job Description

Objectives of the position

The Warehouse Manager will oversee the daily operations of the warehouse facility, ensuring compliance with safety regulations, efficient inventory management, and effective distribution of chemical products. This position requires strong leadership skills, a thorough understanding of warehouse operations, and knowledge of chemical handling and safety protocols.

Main tasks

Warehouse Operations Management:

  • Oversee all aspects of warehouse operations, including receiving, storage, inventory management, and distribution of chemical products.
  • Develop and implement efficient warehouse processes and procedures to optimize space, reduce costs, and improve service levels.
  • To act as Nominated Responsible Person for Thane Site TDS (TRANSPORTATION & DISTRIBUTION SAFETY). Develop & Implement Site Specific Systems & Procedures for BASF TDS Guidelines. Monitor Site Specific Systems & Procedures for BASF TDS Guidelines

Safety and Compliance

  • Ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations regarding the storage and handling of chemicals, including OSHA, EPA, and DOT standards.
  • Conduct regular safety audits and training for warehouse staff to promote a safe working environment and ensure adherence to safety protocols.

Inventory Management:

  • Maintain accurate inventory records, ensuring proper labeling, storage, and rotation of chemical products.
  • Conduct regular cycle counts and audits to minimize discrepancies and manage inventory effectively.
  • Collaborate with procurement and production teams to forecast inventory needs and manage stock levels.

Team Leadership and Development:

  • Lead and mentor warehouse staff, fostering a culture of teamwork, accountability, and continuous improvement.
  • Conduct performance evaluations, set objectives, and provide training to enhance employee skills and knowledge related to warehouse operations and safety.
  • Training of contractor’s workmen (Mathadi), transporters (i.e. drivers and cleaners), in handling/transportation of hazardous materials and action plan during emergency, RC Initiative, ISO Awareness. at regular intervals.
  • Maintain proper documents/records for the training imparted.
  • Ensure proper training to the contract workers before engaging them for warehouse activities

Logistics Coordination:

  • Coordinate with logistics and transportation teams to ensure timely and accurate delivery of products to customers.
  • Manage relationships with third-party logistics providers and transportation vendors to optimize delivery processes and reduce costs.
  • Coordinate and communicate with the supply chain and security team team and ensure timely delivery of vehicle inside the site premises.
  • Communicate to supply chain team in case of any vehicle rejections.

Equipment and Facility Management:

  • Oversee the maintenance and operation of warehouse equipment, ensuring all machinery is in safe working condition.
  • Manage warehouse layout and organization to maximize efficiency and ensure compliance with safety regulations.

Reporting and Analysis:

  • Prepare and present regular reports on warehouse performance metrics, including inventory levels, safety incidents, and operational efficiency.
  • Analyze data to identify trends and areas for improvement, making informed decisions to enhance warehouse operations.

Operation of Weighbridge:

  • Operate the weighbridge equipment to accurately weigh incoming and outgoing vehicles carrying chemical products or raw materials.
  • Ensure the proper functioning of the weighbridge, conducting routine checks and maintenance to prevent downtime.

Data Entry and Record Keeping:

  • Accurately record the weight of each vehicle, including tare weight (empty vehicle weight) and gross weight (loaded vehicle weight).
  • Maintain detailed and organized records of all weighbridge transactions, including dates, times, vehicle identification, driver details, and product descriptions.

Compliance and Regulatory Adherence:

  • Ensure that all legal binding (LtO) topics are maintained as per compliance guidelines and timely complied
    • Ensure that all weighbridge operations comply with relevant local, state, and federal regulations, including those related to the handling of hazardous materials.
    • Keep abreast of changes in regulations that may affect weighbridge operations and implement necessary changes promptly.
  • Coordination with Logistics and Operations:
    • Work closely with logistics and warehouse teams to facilitate smooth traffic flow at the weighbridge, minimizing delays for vehicles.
    • Communicate with drivers regarding weighing procedures and any issues that may arise during the weighing process.
  • Maintenance and Calibration:
    • Schedule and oversee regular maintenance and calibration of the weighbridge to ensure accuracy and compliance with industry standards.
    • Document maintenance activities and calibration results as part of the operational records.
  • Safety Protocols:
    • Implement and enforce safety protocols for weighbridge operations, ensuring that all personnel adhere to safety regulations, especially when handling chemicals.
    • Conduct training sessions for staff on safe practices related to weighbridge operations and emergency procedures.
  • Reporting and Analysis:
    • Generate and analyze reports on weighbridge operations, including vehicle traffic, weight metrics, and any anomalies observed during the weighing process.
    • Use data to identify trends, optimize operations, and improve overall efficiency.
  • Troubleshooting and Problem Resolution:
    • Address and resolve any technical issues related to the weighbridge equipment promptly to minimize operational disruptions.
    • Maintain communication with technical support teams or service providers for equipment repairs or upgrades.
  • Integration with Inventory Systems:
    • Ensure that weighbridge data is accurately integrated into inventory management systems for real-time tracking of materials and products.
    • Collaborate with IT or software teams to ensure the weighbridge system is functioning correctly and data is being captured accurately

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Chemistry, or a related field; relevant certifications (e.g., OSHA, Six Sigma) are a plus.
  • Minimum of years of experience in warehouse management, preferably within the chemical industry or a similar environment 10 to 15 years
  • Strong knowledge of chemical safety regulations and best practices for handling hazardous materials.

Skills:

  • Excellent leadership and team management skills, with the ability to motivate and develop staff , preferred if has handled unionized staff
  • Strong organizational and multitasking abilities, with a keen attention to detail.
  • Proficient in warehouse management systems (WMS) and inventory management software.
  • Effective communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to interact with various stakeholders.
