Service Market Logistics (SML) is part of Group Trucks Operations being globally active in more than 40 locations delivering world-class operational excellence for our customers, based on the smart logistics solutions we have. Our job is to develop, manage and optimize the Service Market supply chain for all Volvo Group brands and JV’s. The scope for Service Market Logistics includes Distribution Centre operations, Flow Optimization, Inventory Management, Customs & Trade as well as the development of logistics solutions to ensure the highest possible parts availability, delivery precision and quality everywhere in the world. GTO Service Market Logistics, APAC Region covers Service Market Business across India, China, Korea, Singapore, Australia, Thailand and Indonesia

Distribution Centre (DC) Bangalore manage Service Market Business supporting all Volvo Group business in the Region including Volvo CE, Volvo Group Trucks, Volvo Bus and Volvo Penta. The primary interface with these entities is through Sales and Marketing’s Aftermarket Commercial function.

Position Description:

Logistics & Quality Engineer role focuses on optimizing warehouse processes, improving efficiency through automation and Lean/Six Sigma, managing quality assurance, and overseeing ERP/VIPS systems. It also involves enhancing warehouse layout, ensuring compliance, and collaborating with teams to resolve issues.

You will report to the Operations Manager of the Distribution Center in Bangalore.

Main activities and responsibilities :

Process Optimization and Improvement

  • Data Analysis and improve warehouse workflows Continuously review and design better processes for receiving, storing, and shipping products.
  • Identify areas to improve warehouse tasks of picking, packing, and material handling.
  • Introduce and improve automated systems (Vision Picking, Digital Twin, conveyors, robots, ASRS) to increase efficiency.
  • Use Lean or Six Sigma methods to reduce waste, cut costs and boost efficiency
  • ERP /VIPS Management
  • Quality Management

Warehouse Layout and Design:

  • Maximize the use of warehouse space, ensuring products are stored efficiently.
  • Design and develop new tools to efficiently lift /handle the parts in Warehouse
  • Ensure the layout allows smooth material movement, avoiding unnecessary delays.

Quality Assurance:

  • Create and apply quality standards to ensure all products meet company and legal requirements (MRP).
  • Inspection & Audits: Regularly check and inspect goods to ensure they are in good condition and accurate.
  • Problem-solving tools /techniques or methodologies
  • Root Cause Analysis: Investigate quality issues, find the causes, and work with teams to fix them (QRQC)
  • Vendor Quality Management: Work with suppliers to ensure their products meet quality standards.
  • Keep detailed records of inspections, audits, and actions taken for compliance.
  • Provide training and guidance to warehouse personnel on quality control procedures, operational best practices, and safety protocols.
  • Collaborate with other departments ( Supply Planning, O&S and Global Teams) to ensure smooth coordination between functions and resolve operational or quality-related issues promptly.
  • Knowledge on Packing engineering

Skills & Competencies:

  • Strong knowledge of warehouse operations and logistics planning,
  • In-depth understanding of quality assurance methods, processes, and industry standards.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills with the ability to identify root causes and implement corrective actions.
  • Proficiency in data analysis and reporting tools ( PBI, Python, ERP software).
  • Effective communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to collaborate cross-functionally.
  • Experience in applying Lean, Six Sigma or other process improvement methodologies is a plus.
  • Work closely with team members to ensure efficient warehouse operations
  • Understand warehouse safety standards and procedures.
  • People management skills will be an added advantage

Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Logistics, Industrial Engineering,
  • 3 to 5 years of experience in logistics, warehouse operations, and quality engineering in a distribution environment.
  • Experience with quality management systems (QMS) and warehouse management systems (WMS) is highly desirable.
