Job Description

The Material Planner plays a key role in supporting the Aftermarket business deliver customer service levels by ensuring spares and consumables inventory are maintained at the optimum level to support the sales to distributor and repair of Smiths Detection products at customer locations. The material planners’ responsibilities include creating & maintaining Inventory schedules and Supply Plans, coordinating with internal departments and managing external supplier stakeholder relations.

 

Duties & Responsibilities

Responsibilities:

  • End to End ownership for Purchase order management including creation, PO date change, PO confirmation, Progress chasing up to and incl the Goods Receipt.
  • Ensure the integrity of the Transactional Data through relentless progress chasing with Internal & External Suppliers
  • Ensure all applicable MRP Master data parameters are correctly set and maintained.
  • Work closely with vendors to ensure on-time delivery of materials. Pro-actively working with vendors to resolve any potential delay in material shipments.
  • Report monthly Supplier performance and perform deep dive analysis on root cause with a view to proposing collaborative corrective actions.
  • Develop, review & validate Global Aftermarket forecast for assigned portfolio & share with Internal & external Suppliers.
  • Monitor material levels to ensure an optimal level of stock is maintained to meet agreed Internal & External Customer SLA’s and Inventory targets.
  • Analyze Global spares network for opportunities to redeploy stock and reduce direct spend with Suppliers.
  • Supporting business improvement program such as Continuous Improvement, Kaizen, Lean, Process automation etc.
  • Ensure the Smiths Code of Corporate Responsibility and Business Ethics is upheld in all activities.

The Individual

Skills and responsibilities:

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher
  • 4 years + in a supply chain role with experience of Supplier / Vendor Management
  • Demonstrable proficiency in MS Office suite, particularly Word and Excel. Related working experience in specializing in Purchasing / Inventory / Demand Planning
  • Highly developed analytical and mathematical skills. Strong verbal and written communication. Collaborative problem-solving skills. Ability to work under pressure and successfully manage multiple responsibilities. Experience in an MRP system environment (SAP preferred). Inventory management skills including cost savings, inventory reduction and inventory best practice.
  • A professional supply chain qualification, e.g. CSCP / APICS. SAP business systems trained.
  • Must be Process orientated with a passion for operational excellence through detailed execution.
  • Possess excellent organizational, communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to multitask and manage a wide range of activities.
  • Strong stakeholder management skills and the ability to handle stressful situations when working under pressure and strict deadlines.
  • Self-motivated, reliable, and accountable individual.
  • The ability to make good judgments by thinking quickly and broadly and where applicable using solid data-based justifications.
  • Must be organized, systematic and be able to deliver upon the KPI commitments.
  • Able to prioritise tasks and take the initiative to deliver the specified KPI targets.
  • Executing plans to deliver actions and longer-term objectives.
  • Identifying and prioritising actions based on the customer and business needs.
  • Ensuring all decisions are within the published Delegation of Authority.
  • Work closely and collaboratively with Product & Demand Planners to ensure Demand Forecast captures known opportunities / vulnerabilities.
  • Engage with Sourcing & Procurement highlighting Supplier performance gaps and highlighting opportunities to create value through optimized replenishment strategies.
  • Partner and build strong relationships with vendors and internal supply factories.
