Job Description

DESCRIPTION

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage sourcing and procurement strategies aimed at reducing cost, minimizing risk, fostering innovation, and optimizing business processes.
  • Set goals for and manage category strategy, commodity, and/or project teams.
  • Promote alignment of procurement strategy with business unit and supply chain goals.
  • Identify, plan, and implement continuous improvement opportunities within the supply chain.
  • Engage with Pre-M0 product/technology development functions to provide necessary support.
  • Identify and manage a relevant supply base of competitive and innovative companies.
  • Build strong supplier relationships; serve as primary contact for issue resolution with suppliers.
  • Lead and manage procurement projects and certain commodity teams at the business unit or corporate level.
  • Negotiate supplier contracts independently or as a member of a negotiating team; manage relationships with suppliers.
  • Manage the supplier selection process and conduct complex supplier negotiations and contracts.
  • Lead the analysis of key trends/issues in supply and total cost of ownership for assigned products.
  • Maintain team’s focus on the impact of sourcing decisions across the entire supply chain.
  • Advise and consult with internal business partners on sourcing and procurement processes and procedures.
  • Develop, lead, and motivate staff where applicable; set goals in training and development, performance, and career planning.
  • Fully understand the importance of compliance and actively seek to mitigate risk for Cummins.

  • Category Strategy Development: Establishing category strategy using Total Value Performance (TVP) approach to define the Supply Base, Tooling, and Technology Strategy to meet all current and future Cummins’ needs; managing risk and inclusion of diverse suppliers.
  • Cost and Value Management: Establishing and controlling product and service costs using functional tools to deliver and track products and services at competitive prices. Ensuring competitiveness of Cummins products in our markets while preserving desired margins. Utilizing Total Cost Opportunity (TCO) model methodology.
  • Intellectual Property Management: Assuring protection of Cummins Intellectual Property to optimize its use for future competitive advantage by engaging the Legal and Procurement function; ensuring Cummins’ intellectual property ownership rights are clearly defined in executed agreements.
  • Negotiations Excellence: Utilizing tools and methods in negotiations to achieve Cummins stakeholder objectives and mutually agreed upon contract terms.
  • Procurement Ethics: Avoiding supplier engagement that may compromise sourcing, selection, and management processes; seeking counsel to ensure compliance.
  • Supplier Relationship Management: Defining category’s key/strategic suppliers and managing relationships using the Supplier Relationship Management (SRM) process with established work plans, senior sponsor meetings, and scorecards. Evaluating collaborative relationships with key/strategic suppliers to deliver value to Cummins and the supplier.
  • Supply Base Risk Management: Minimizing supplier risk to Cummins by proactively mitigating risks through risk analysis tools and risk mitigation playbooks to manage continuity of supply, reputational risk, and risk to margins. Managing and leveraging supplier selection and dual sourcing opportunities as a first line of defense against supplier risk.
  • Values Differences: Recognizing the value that different perspectives and cultures bring to an organization.

QUALIFICATIONS

Qualifications:

  • College, university, or equivalent degree in a field appropriate for the function required.
  • This position may require licensing for compliance with export controls or sanctions regulations.

Skills:

  • Strategic thinking, team building, and mentoring.
  • Skills to manage complex, low volume, niche products and parts.
  • Responsible for cost, on-time supplies, and quality of supplier parts.

Additional Requirement:

  • The candidate is required to visit the Bangalore Technical Centre (BTC) once a week.
